e-mailed, but forgot to post on-line....catching up :)
We’re plugging right along. Students seem to understand most of the schedule and expectations. This week we’ve talked more about logical consequences (positive, & negative) and how our classroom and school environment mimics the real world with these consequences.
Thank you for your support at home! I’ve been noting points and reminders (specific notes) in Class Dojo so we’re on the same page from the start.
Shout out!
Rhonda Cude – thank you for your donation of small Skittles bags for the Treasure Box! They were a hit with these littles!
Topics:
Reading Characters, setting, & plot; How do characters contribute to the story?
Writing Personal Narrative; How can I develop my characters as an author?
One thing I’ve noticed most of the students need some practice with is forming complete sentences in their responses….by 3rd grade, capitals and punctuation are expected (without reminders), and sentences should “echo” the question and be more developed with description that prior years. We’ve practiced that more this past week in conversation, on Kahoot, and on paper. A helpful strategy was highlighting the “echo” part of the question, and I will continue to model this and ask students to use this strategy when they are working independently.
Grammar Nouns (common & proper)
On/Adv Math Place value concepts, thru thousands (adding & subtracting with regrouping; measurement & data with different types of graphs) / area & perimeter
On Some vocabulary we have used include digit, place value, and value. We also talked about comma placement (between thousands and hundreds).
Adv Students commonly forget to include “square units” in their responses for area measurements, and “units” for perimeter. We’ll keep practicing.
Social Studies Map skills – Compass Rose, Latitude & Longitude
